Borrowed from English absinthe, French absinthe, German Absinth, Italian assenzio, Polish absynt, Russian абсе́нт (absént), from Latin absinthium. Compare Interlingua absinthio. First attested in 1889 in the herb sense; the liquor sense is first seen in a 1909 definition.
