Borrowed from Arabic بِلَّوْرِيّ (billawriyy, “crystalline”), from بِلَّوْر (billawr) + ـِيّ (-iyy). The Royal Spanish Academy postulates that it came to Arabic from Tamil but notes that similar terms are found in other South Asian languages, including Persian and Sanskrit.
