(Doetinchem) First attested as winburg in 1185. Etymology uncertain. Potentially a compound formed from Old Dutch winna (“pasture”) and burg (“reinforced settlement”). A different etymology interprets the first component as Old Dutch wini (“friend”).
(Epe) First attested as op de Wijnberg in 1657. Derived from wijnberg (“place where grapes grow”). Named after a farm named in turn after a field.
