Vokabular
التعريفات والمعاني
== German ==
=== Alternative forms ===
Vokabularium (archaic), Vocabular, Vocabularium (obsolete)
=== Etymology ===
18th century, learned borrowing from Latin vocabularium. By surface analysis, Vokabel + -ar.
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /vokabuˈlaːr/, [ˌvoː.ka.buˈlaː(ɐ̯)], [ˌvɔ-], [-bʊ-], [-ˈlaːʁ], (also) /voˌkaːbuˈlaːr/, [voˌkaː-]
=== Noun ===
Vokabular n (strong, genitive Vokabulars, plural Vokabulare)
vocabulary (stock of words)
Synonym: Wortschatz
vocabulary (list of words, typically with concise glosses)
Synonyms: Wortverzeichnis / Wörterverzeichnis, Wortliste / Wörterliste
==== Usage notes ====
(stock of words): Wortschatz and Vokabular are generally interchangeable. However, there is a loose tendency to prefer Wortschatz when referring to all the words in a language or a person’s knowledge, and to prefer Vokabular when referring to a more or less random selection of words (as those used in a text, those to be memorized for a course, etc.).
