Vergissmeinnicht

=== Alternative forms ===
Vergißmeinnicht (superseded)
=== Etymology ===
Univerbation of vergiss + mein + nicht, literally “forget me not”. The flower is considered a symbol of loyalty, friendship and remembrance. The verb vergessen used to be used with the object in the genitive case, using mein as the now-archaic genitive pronoun of ich. Therefore, the contemporary German construction would instead be "vergiss mich nicht".
=== Pronunciation ===
IPA(key): /fərˈɡɪsmaɪ̯(n)ˌnɪç(t)/, /fɛr-/, [fɐˈɡɪs.maɪ̯.nɪçt], [fɛɐ̯-], [-maɪ̯n-], [-ˌnɪç]
Degemination is even more common in this word than otherwise, i.e. only one /n/ is usually realised. The loss of the final /t/ is chiefly informal (cf. nicht).
=== Noun ===
Vergissmeinnicht n (strong, genitive Vergissmeinnichts or Vergissmeinnichtes, plural Vergissmeinnicht or Vergissmeinnichte)
forget-me-not (plant)
