Varsinais-Suomi

التعريفات والمعاني

== Finnish == === Etymology === varsinainen (“proper”) +‎ Suomi (“Finland”), named so because Suomi originally referred to this region and only later to the entire country. The Finnish term, which only became established in the mid-19th century, is a calque of Swedish Egentliga Finland, which is found from at least the 18th century. Some Latin texts in the 1650s already use terms like Fenningia specialiter dicta (literally “Finland specifically speaking”) and Fenningia presse dicta (literally “Finland precisely speaking”), and the Swedish term could be considered to originate from the latter. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈʋɑrsinɑi̯sˌsuo̯mi/, [ˈʋɑ̝rs̠inɑ̝i̯s̠ˌs̠uo̞̯mi] Rhymes: -uomi Syllabification(key): Var‧si‧nais‧Suo‧mi Hyphenation(key): Var‧sinais‧Suomi === Proper noun === Varsinais-Suomi Southwest Finland, Finland Proper; a province (maakunta) of Finland. ==== Declension ==== ==== Derived terms ==== === References ===
