=== Etymology ===
Uuksu + -la + -inen; Uuksu, Uuksula (+ -la) is a village in Ladoga Karelia (Suistamo and Salmi), and the surname has developed through the sense "someone from Uuksu(la)". The original name was to a body of water, either the lake (Uuksujärvi or Uuksunjärvi), or the river (Uuksujoki, Uuksunjoki); the village in Suistamo is perhaps named after the former, but the village in Salmi definitely after the latter, both due to the proximity to the respective body of water.
