== Old High German == === Etymology === From walt (“rule, authority”) +‎ -ni (feminine suffix) (from Proto-West Germanic *-ini) === Proper noun === Uualtni f (Bavarian) a female given name ==== Declension ==== Feminine ī/jō-stem The nominative singular of the jō-stems (Proto-West Germanic *-ī) was originally uninflected like the ō-stems; and the accusative form usually took its place. The old nominative singular is preserved in fem. personal names, and in the derivatives ending in *-inī and *-unjō. The jō-stems show in the oldest documents instead of -jō the ending -e and retain the j before o, u.
