Tomorricë

التعريفات والمعاني

== Albanian == === Alternative forms === Tomoricë === Etymology === Attested as Church Slavonic Томорьница (Tomorĭnica) (1467), Ottoman Turkish تومرنیچه (tomorniçe) (1488), طموریلیچسه (tomoriliçse) (1670) and English Tomorítza (1835). Morphologically from Tomorr, the mountain the region is next to, with the Slavic suffix -icë. Most scholars propose coinage within Slavic, presumably during the Second Bulgarian Empire's rule over the region. On the other hand, the shift from original -rn- to -rr- is characteristing of Albanian, meaning that Macedonian Томорица (Tomorica) must be borrowed from Albanian. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /tomoˈrit͡sə/ Rhymes: -it͡sə === Proper noun === Tomorricë f (definite Tomorrica) Tomorrica (a region of Albania) Tomorrica (a river in Albania) ==== Declension ==== === References === Elsie Hydronimica, page 34: “Tomoricë” → “Tomorricë” Ylli SLA, vol. 2, page 177b: “Tomoríc/ë,~a” Seliščev (1931), page 242: “Томорница > Томорица”
