From Ancient Greek Θρᾴκη (Thrāíkē), from Θρᾷξ (Thrāîx, “Thracian”), from base of θράσσω (thrássō, “to trouble, stir”) and -ιξ (-ix) (compare Φοίνιξ (Phoínix, “Phoenician”) and Κίλιξ (Kílix, “Cilician”)).
