Borrowed from Punjabi ਥਿੰਦ (thind), which is inherited from Sanskrit *स्तिन्त (*stinta, “wet”), from स्तिम् (stim, “to become wet or moist; to become fixed or immovable”). Cognate with Palula síndu. See Punjabi ਥਿੰਦਾ (thindā) for more information.
