== German == === Etymology === From Low German Smöker, from the verb smöken (“to smoke”), from Middle Low German smöken, from Proto-West Germanic *smaukijan. The semantic motivation is unclear. Some compare Schinken (literally “ham”) and thus interpret Schmöker as “smoked ham”. Others compare Swedish lunta (literally “fuse”) and derive it from the practice of using pages from old books for lighting pipes.
