== English == === Etymology === From medieval abbreviations of Middle English Sarisberie, Sarisburie (the spelling attested in the Domesday Book) as Sar̅ or Saꝝ. Because such marks were usually used to abbreviate the Latin ending -rum, by the 13th century some writers mistakenly assumed the full name was Sarum (by the 14th century, Robert Wyvil described himself as episcopus Sarum).
