=== Etymology ===
From Latin Sacaraucae, from Ancient Greek Σακαραῦκαι (Sakaraûkai). See there for more.
The form Sacaraules (“Sacarauli”) derives from Σακάραυλοι (Sakárauloi), a name that appears only in Strabo's Geographica. It is generally considered to have originated as a scribal corruption of the original phrase Σακαραῦκαι καὶ Αὐγαλοί (Sakaraûkai kaì Augaloí, “Sacaraucae and Augali”).
