== Dutch == === Etymology === First attested as rustern in 1201. Etymology unknown. Potentially derived from a hydronym. A proposed reading of the toponym as a compound of rood (“red”) and the toponym Susteren is incorrect. Formerly called Schettereind. The village received its current name relatively recently; the former bearer of the toponym became known as Oud-Roosteren.
