(Limburg) First attested as Overbrock in 1803-1820. Compound of oost (“east-, eastern”) and broek (“marsh, marshland”). The element oost was added to distinguish the settlement from Westbroek. See also Limburgish 't Klei-Brook.
(Zuid-Holland) First attested as Oostbroek in 1874. Compound of oost (“east-, eastern”) and broek (“marsh, marshland”). Named after a former farmhouse.
