== Dutch == === Etymology === Oost is first attested as oys in 1140. Maarland is first attested as marlant in 1330. Oost is likely derived from Proto-Germanic *agwjô (“land next to a watercourse”). Maarland is derived from a compound of Middle Dutch maar (“lake, pool”) and land (“land”). Formerly an independent village and hamlet.
