Attested as Oog in al in 1743. Derived from oog (“eye”) and al (“all”). Named after a former manor, the name of which is thought to have referred to the desire of its owner, aristocrat Everard Meyster, to oversee the grandiose expansion projects for Utrecht he conceptualised.
