Ohrid
التعريفات والمعاني
== English ==
=== Etymology ===
Borrowed from Macedonian Охрид (Ohrid), from о- (o-) + хрид (hrid, “mount, hill, elevation”).
It has been proposed by Katičić that the modern name is a modified version of the ancient Greek name, where the transition of "Lychnidus" to "Ohrid" presupposes a characteristic sound development from Albanian. Same development as Nish from Naissos, Shtip from Astibos and Sharr from Scardus, which may have thereby entered Slavic.
