The name of the hamlet derives from the Russian Обу́ховская (Obúxovskaja, proper noun), whereas the name of the rural territory derives from the Russian обу́ховская (obúxovskaja, adjective form); the latter is the feminine of обу́ховский (obúxovskij, adjective) and the former a feminine substantive of the same; обу́ховский (obúxovskij) is the relational adjective for Обу́хов (Obúxov), Обу́ховка (Obúxovka), Обу́хово (Obúxovo), Обу́ховское (Obúxovskoje), etc. Compare Obukhovsky and Obukhovskoye.
