Nachwahl f (genitive Nachwahl, plural Nachwahlen)
an election that takes place after the general election date, but does not establish a new legislative period
election held when the general date could not be kept in a district by an act of God (e.g. when a local candidate died shortly before)
by-election (election to fill a seat that has become vacant)
Synonym: Ersatzwahl
