== Dutch == === Etymology === First attested as lyesscot in 1372 and 1384. Derived from a compound of lies (“great manna grass, Glyceria maxima”) and either schot (“enclosed space, fenced-in territory”) or schit (“boundary, watershed”). The second element was later reinterpreted as hout (“rising deciduous forest”) and eind (“end, edge”).
