Borrowed from Italian leonardeschi, the masculine plural form of leonardesco (“of or pertaining to Leonardo da Vinci, Leonardesque”), named after the Italian Renaissance polymath Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) + -esco (“-esque”, suffix forming an adjective or noun indicating relationship, membership or quality).
