borrowed from Ancient Greek Λαβεάται (Labeátai). Thought to be related to the modern Labëri (“land of lab”), derived from lëbozë (“horizon/sky”), from Proto-Albanian *labeita close to the name of the Illyrian tribe Labeatae, suggesting an archaic meaning of "small sky".
