== English == === Etymology === From Kangean +‎ -ese, from Dutch Kangeanisch or Kangeansch, from Kangean kangean or kangayan. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈka.ŋe.ɑˈniːz/ Hyphenation: Ka‧nge‧a‧nese === Adjective === Kangeanese (not comparable) Of or relating to Kangean, its inhabitants, or their language or culture. ==== Translations ==== === Noun === Kangeanese (countable and uncountable, plural Kangeanese) (chiefly in the plural) A native or inhabitant of Kangean. ==== Usage notes ==== As with other terms for people formed with -ese, the countable singular noun in reference to a person (as in "I am a Kangeanese", "writing about Kangeanese cuisine as a Kangeanese") is now uncommon and often taken as grammatically incorrect. In its place, the adjective is used, by itself (as in "I am Kangeanese") or before a noun like person, man, or woman ("writing about Kangeanese cuisine as a Kangeanese person"). See also -ish, which is similarly only primarily used as an adjective or as a plural noun. ==== See also ==== Kangeanic Kangeans === Further reading === Kangeanese people on Wikipedia.Wikipedia Ethnologue entry for Kangeanese, kkv
