Unknown + -nen, from the region of North Ostrobothnia. Possibly from a Karelian vernacular form of Gabriel, from kaakki (dialectally also kaaki) in reference to a narrow terrain feature (“nag, useless horse” ~ “old, sickly person” > “emaciated” > “narrow”), or from Germanic given names (compare Middle Low German Kaack).
