Jaguariúna

=== Etymology ===
Coined in 1944 by adding Old Tupi una (“black”) to the former Jaguari district. The resulting compound in Old Tupi would literally mean “black river of jaguars” (îagûaryúna) — however, the intended final meaning was “river of black jaguars”. For this, one would need to change the word order (îagûarundy), resulting in *Jaguarundi.
