== German == === Etymology === From German Low German [Term?]. Obviously related to Imme (“bee”). There are two theories concerning the details of the development: From Middle Low German immenkar (“beehive”), which is a compound with Middle Low German kar (“basket”). The component -ker < -kar would then have been secondarily associated with the Low German suffix -ker for occupations (compare Böttcher). Directly derived from Imme with the mentioned suffix. Cognate with Dutch imker. Either way, ultimately from Proto-West Germanic *imbjakaʀjō. === Pronunciation === IPA(key): /ˈɪmkɐ/ === Noun === Imker m (strong, genitive Imkers, plural Imker, feminine Imkerin) beekeeper (male or of unspecified gender) Synonym: (less common) Bienenzüchter ==== Declension ==== ==== Derived terms ==== Imkerei imkern ==== Related terms ==== Imme === Further reading === “Imker” in Digitales Wörterbuch der deutschen Sprache “Imker” in Uni Leipzig: Wortschatz-Lexikon “Imker” in Duden online Imker on the German Wikipedia.Wikipedia de
