=== Etymology ===
From Proto-Germanic *Herzendô or Proto-Germanic *Herrendô from Proto-Germanic *herzô (“hinge”) therefore possibly meaning "the hinged one" or rather "the hanged one", equivalent to hjara + -andi, cf. Old Norse hjarr (“hinge”) or maybe "the loud one", cf. Shetland sjara (“to rattle”). Cognate with Old English Heorrenda which is soley attested in Deor where Heorrenda is a genius poet, replacing Deor in the court of the Heodenings (Hjaðningar), and Old High German Herrant attested in Kudrun "wie suoze Horant sanc" = "How sweet Horant sang".
