Herkenrade
التعريفات والمعاني
== Dutch ==
=== Etymology ===
First attested as herckenroede in 1309. Potentially a compound of Old Dutch Hariko (a personal name) and rode (“land cleared of trees”). Less-likely alternative readings of the first element include Old Dutch harag (“holy place”), Latin arca (“chest, box”) and an otherwise unknown and inexplicable term Middle Dutch *herk. Compare Herkenbosch.
