Haverdal

التعريفات والمعاني

== Swedish == === Etymology === Borrowed from Danish Haffredall, originally derived from Old Danish Hawærydh. The original being a compound of have (“pasture”) +‎ ryd (“clearing”). Then shortened to "Haverda", via the parish dialect to "Haverd", plus the added plural suffix -a (For unkown reason many place-names are in plural form, despite often referring to a single feature.). "Haverda" was then, via folk etymology, transformed to its contemporary form "Haverdal"; where dal means "dale" or "valley". The original form Hawærydh is first attested in 1466. The dal (“dale”) form is attested since 1603 as Haffredall. === Proper noun === Haverdal n (genitive Haverdals) a town in Harplinge district, Halmstad municipality, Halland county, Sweden === References ===
