== Dutch == === Etymology === First attested as gasperwerde in 1228. Originally a compound of the hydronym Gaasp and Middle Dutch wert (“land next to water, riverine island”). The old name of the settlement was replaced by that of a nearby castle, which derives in turn from the toponym Haag (derived from hage (“hedge, enclosure”)) and stein (“stone building, castle”).
