gullinn (“golden”) + tǫnn (“tooth”) + -i (masculine nominal suffix). Cognate with Sanskrit हिरण्यदन्त (hiraṇyadanta, “Golden-toothed”, epithet of Agni), which has been used to argue for Heimdallr’s role as a fire-god.
