== Old Irish == === Etymology === From Proto-Brythonic *Guɨðel (the ancestor of Welsh Gwyddel (“Irishman”)), from Proto-Celtic *weidus (“wild”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁weydʰh₁- (“wood, wilderness”).
