=== Etymology ===
Coined by Carl Linnaeus as if Ancient Greek γλυκίνη (glukínē) after Ancient Greek γλυκύς (glukús, “sweet”) because of one member of the genus having a sweet root.
In scientific Latin, the genius name is rendered as a feminine noun glycinē (as opposed to amino acid glycine which is rendered as a neuter noun glycinum).
