From Arabic عَرَبِيّ (ʕarabiyy). One of the few words referring to Arabo-Islamic culture that was actually inherited (and not later reborrowed from Italian). Might also be used to refer to the early forms of Maltese language either by its speakers or foreigners who visited Muslim and later re-Christianized Malta.
