== German == === Etymology === 15th century, from Futter (“lining”, formerly also “sheath”) +‎ -al. Said to have been formed after Medieval Latin fotrale, but this is sparsely attested and no earlier than the German; thus perhaps inspired by Middle French fourrel, from Old French forrel (11th c.).
