Literally, “peace, joy, pancakes”. The origin of the phrase is uncertain; it is attested in print at least since 1959, when the critic Carl Andrießen wrote, “Am Schluß, wie sichs gehört, Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen und Beifall” (‘At the end, as is proper, peace, joy, pancakes, and applause’).
