== Scottish Gaelic == === Etymology === A proto-Celtic form *Ver-caro-s has been reconstructed. The first element may be related to modern Gaelic fìor 'true', or to modern Gaelic fear 'man' (cf. Fergus). The second element is the root of Gaelic caraid 'friend' and Latin carus 'dear'.
