If so possibly from an unattested *kokkýmēl(i)on, from Ancient Greek κοκκύμηλον (kokkúmēlon, “plum”), apparently derived from κόκκῡξ (kókkūx, “early ripening fig”) +‎ μῆλον (mêlon, “apple, any fruit from a tree”).
