Derived from Scottish Gaelic siorrachd chlach Mhannainn (“county with the stone of Manau”). For the second element see cloch (“stone”). The last element is from Celtic, but of unknown meaning; see Manau.

Clackmannan
A town in Clackmannanshire council area, Scotland, which was the county town of the historic county of Clackmannanshire until 1822 (OS grid ref NS9192).
A local government district of the Central Region, Scotland, created in 1975 when the county of Clackmannanshire was abolished, and renamed Clackmannanshire again in 1996 when it became a council area.
