Both spellings, Cherusker and Cheruſker, do occur in different Fraktur texts.
In the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century, some states proscribed spellings like Basilisk, brüsk, Maske (Prussia, 1880; Bavaria, 1903; Prussia, 1908) while some states proscribed spellings like Maſke (Württemberg, 1861).
