=== Etymology ===
Borrowed from Dutch Kats Kill (literally “Cat('s) Creek”), from kat (“cat”) + -s- (linking morpheme) + kil (“creek, kill”); the broader Catskill region was called Landt van Kats Kill (“Land of Cat Creek”), named after the Catskill. The variants Kaatskill and Kaaterskill may be later pseudo-Dutchisms. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.
