=== Etymology ===
Possibly from sanleking (“light material for backpacks”).
Folklore says that before, this was named after a big bird called Tulcho (“Philippine eagle”), the Spaniards called it "Cali", and others called it "King" ("famous"). This bird hunts other animals like pigs, small and young animals, and even a child, and carries them to "Pungawis" ("a big tree"), where Cali made its home. All the bones or leftovers from the animals it hunted were found under this big tree.
Every time the bird flies to the different directions it always comes back to Pungawis then flies to another direction to the north, south, east and west forming the boundary of the barangay. As time goes the people observed and noticed that most of their animals were disappearing. This made the old folks realized that the big bird "Cali" is hunting their animals in the place and eats them. The people decided to hunt the bird for if continues to settle in the barangay all animals in the place will be gone. The bird was hunted and killed by the old folks. The barangay was then named "Caliking" from its names "Cali" and "King" as a symbol of victory of the old folks against the big and fierce bird.
