Belatucadros

التعريفات والمعاني

== Gaulish == === Etymology === Lambert states it to be either the name of a deity or an epithet attached to a deity. Delamarre reads the first component as belatu- (“death”), which he links to the attested names Belatulla, Belatullius, Belatullus, & Belatus and compares it to Old Irish atbaill (“to perish, die”) and Proto-Celtic *balnīti (“to die”). Savignac reads the second component as cadros (“beautiful”), with a proposed relation to Welsh cadr (“beautiful”), Breton kaer (“beautiful”), & Old Breton cadr (“beautiful”), but Delamarre regards this connection as problematic as the Brittonic forms would go back to Proto-Celtic *katros. === Attestation === Known from around 28 inscriptions near Hadrian's Wall. === Noun === Belatucadros Epithet of Mars, with a proposed meaning of "beautiful death". ==== Declension ==== === References ===
