Bathmen
التعريفات والمعاني
== Dutch ==
=== Etymology ===
First attested as batmen in 1284. Etymology uncertain. Although the toponym has been interpreted as a compound of Old Dutch Bodo (a personal name) or Middle Dutch bade (“messenger employed in a farmers' organisation”) and man (“man”), the toponym's similarity to a set of ancient, unexplained toponyms makes any proposed etymologies tenuous. Compare Berkum, Besthmen, Diermen, Fortmond, Giethmen, Helpman, Hertme, Ratum, Reutum, Thamen, Wachtum and Wijthmen.
