Perhaps originally referring to a Viennese wine tavern by the name of Pillichsdorfer (name derived from Pillichsdorf, a municipality north-east of Vienna in Lower Austria. By folk etymology, the first part of the name then was adapted to the very similar sounding büllich (“cheap”). By surface analysis, büllich + -s- + Duaf + -er. See also German Billigsdorfer.
