From Proto-Germanic *Auziwandilaz, cognate with Old English Ēarendel, Old High German Ōrendil and the disputed Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐌶𐌰𐌽𐌳𐌹𐌻 (auzandil). The name is attested by Saxo Grammaticus as Latin Horuendillus. It's variously used as a personal name, the name of a deity and in reference to the Morning Star (Venus).
