From Latin Armorica (compare Middle English Armorik), alternative form of Arēmorica, from Transalpine Gaulish *Aremorika (“(place) by the sea”), from Proto-Celtic *ɸare- (“in front of”) + *mori (“sea”). Compare Breton war vor, Welsh ar fôr (“on the sea”), and the tribe Morini.
