=== Etymology ===
From ambiongan, a colorful bee species that produced very sweet honey. They were abundant in the area before. The area was then split into two; the northern part to La Trinidad and the southern part to Baguio.
Folklore says lowlanders hiked to attempt to search for ambiongan. Together with their Ibaloi friends, they were able to find other colorful bees but not the ambiongan. They inhabited the surroundings and started having kanyaw (“ritual”) while drinking tapey. One time, during the feast of the pangat/peshit, they invited all relatives and friends from afar, and at midday just after dancing bendian, the pangat emerged in the middle and shouted to Kabunian that he declares the name of the place wherein they are feasting as "Ambiong" as a remembrance of the ambiongan story and to continue to seach for honey.
